Bogenhofen: The Day Finally Came!

After a long, long wait, the weekend finally came when my parents were scheduled to arrive in Europe. School ended a couple days before they came and I tried to keep myself as busy as possible. You simply cannot understand how restless I was. It was the same kind of sensation as sitting through your last day of school before Christmas break, or the last half-hour in a plane or a car after a long long journey. I wanted to tear my hair out. Regardless, my hair remained safely attached to my scalp with a great deal of self control.

The day before my parents arrived, I went bouldering in Salzburg with some friends.

On Monday, my parents were scheduled to arrive in the afternoon, so I had to find a creative way to fill my time. So, me and Keegan bought some plastic easter eggs online and tiny glow-in-the-dark duckies, and hid them around campus.

I also caught a frog

We spend pretty much the entire day hiding easter eggs around campus for our fellow students to find when they returned back from easter break, only to have a couple kids find one and go on a mad hunting spree until pretty much every egg had been found. Its okay though, as long as our little surprise made someone happy, it was worth it. Plus, we had a lot of fun.

We stuffed the easter eggs the night before and I had said to Keegan, "This is the kind of thing I wish someone would do for me." The next day, after we were finished hiding eggs, he informed me that he'd hid all of our dinosaurs (we've been collecting dinosaurs from kinder eggs over the past few months) around campus and I would have to go and find them. When I found all of them, he gave me a Twix bar, which is my favorite candy bar. It was extremely sweet and thoughtful and besides my parents arriving, it made my day.

Then, at two, my parents finally came. I saw them across campus and ran to their arms and cried. It felt so good to be held again and to know that for the next two weeks, all of my anxieties would be taken care of, just like when I was a little girl.

Even though they were tired, my parents were kind enough to humor me and go out to eat with me and my friends. When we used to visit Abby and Gideon at college, they always introduced us to their friends. It was pretty important to me that Mama and Papa got to meet my friends, especially since they have played such a big role in my year abroad, and in my life recently.

Mama insisted she take the train to experience what our daily lives felt like in Europe.

Showing them around campus!

I had a terrible headache during dinner because I was in the sun all day, so that night, all three of us were exhausted and went to sleep early, excited about our upcoming adventure!
