Bogenhofen: Just Some Things
Spring has lulled me into a quiet routine—the kind that comes before a big event. The kind that comes when you know you have to "lay low" or you'll go crazy. That's how I feel with anticipation of my parents' arrival and the soon-to-follow trip to Greece. If I don't live quietly and try to enjoy the little things in life now, I won't be able to wait for the bigger things. The logic makes sense in my brain even if I can't express it here.
I have recently read Anne of Green Gables and have been watching the show with my friend, and currently, I'm just trying to live an Anne of Green Gables type of existence. I think often of two specific quotes from the book, "Looking forward to things is half the pleasure of them," and, "I believe the nicest and sweetest days are not those on which anything very splendid or wonderful or exciting happens but just those that bring simple little pleasures, following one another softly like pearls slipping off a string."
The first quote defines my current state of mind, and the second quote defines my life. Oh sure, school is still a drudgery and I don't enjoy sitting in class all day, but as soon as the breezy afternoons roll around or I wake up on a sunny weekend day, life just feels so good. Everything smells like sunshine and fresh dirt, daffodils are springing up in every corner of the lawn, the swans dance on the quiet water of the Bogi pond, and I find little bird nests clinging to low-hanging branches. Outside of school, I spend my afternoons walking down to the castle, sketching, or playing The Legend of Zelda on my switch. Evenings are spent together in the solitary attic living room we've made our home, where we set up our half-broken projector to watch movies, play board games and charades, or just talk. So here are some pictures to sum up life lately.
March is the month of birthdays. Six of my friends have birthdays in March, so there's been a lot to celebrate. |
I had the Bible open in three different languages; English, German, and Greek |
We visited a museum of science in Munich with our class. Keegan and I had a lot of fun finding interactive exhibits and buttons to press while everyone else actually learned something. |
So many flowers!!! |
I recently bought a bird book for my parents when they come. I carry it around with me and check European birds off my life list. |
I found this lamp by the dumpsters and brought it home with me. At night the crystals sprinkle warm light across the room, and during the day, they spray it with rainbows. |
My train broke down halfway to Braunau and let me out in some random village. Don't worry, I was able to find a ride. |
The boy's dorm recently had open doors; an event where all the girls get to visit the boy's rooms. I won this pink bear, Francois, in a competition, and now Wiki has a friend. |
On Wednesday, we had an outdoor day and I got to go skiing again! It was so much fun. Me and Kendra skied really hard, and both hit trees. :D |
And yesterday was my friend Florencia's birthday so we went on a walk in which I led everyone around telling them semi-truthful facts about nature. |
